It’s been a long road, but Freestyle Martial Arts has officially settled into its new home on Sharlands Avenue in northwest Reno. The new schedule is live, the open house has come and gone, the raffle prizes have been awarded, and the first week of classes (and then some) is complete. For so long, we were all working toward this moment, and we hope you’re savoring it as much as we are.

In the very reflective words of Professor Scott: “It still seems surreal after the ups, the downs, the more downs, slight ups, more downs, and finally big ups. It will take a while for the stress and anxiety to fade, and maybe a bit more for a normal life routine to surface. But, I finally feel like maybe I can give myself some time to relax. Just a little bit.

For the past week, I have found myself just sitting on the mats, staring blankly into the distance, and seeing the vision we had for the school actually exist in front of me. From a napkin drawing, to a legal pad sketch, to CAD design, to plans, to what it is today, the building has come together. And from the dedication and trust of the parents and students, the school has persevered to be able to fill that building with its history and potential. Feeling overwhelmed with gratitude is an understatement.”

We did it, and now, we can’t wait to see everyone on the mats in the new space.
